Marion Barry, Jr To Give Keynote Address For DuBois Business Summit In Greenbelt, Maryland

Lanham, MD (PRWEB) October 30, 2004

The presenters of the Dubois Business Summit, scheduled for November 18, 2004 at Martin’s Crosswinds are excited to announce their Luncheon Keynote Speaker, Marion Barry, Jr. Mr. Barry, the charismatic former mayor of the nation’s capital, will speak on the topic, “African-American Entrepreneurial Empowerment: Creating The Plan.”

Mr. Barry is a native of Mississippi. After coming to Washington, DC in 1965 to establish a local chapter for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), he went on to become “the most dominant politician in the nation’s capital.” Marion Barry, Jr. has served on the District of Columbia Board of Education, City Council and as Mayor, which he held for 16 years.

Marion Barry, Jr. is credited by many with reshaping the District’s ailing economy and finances by first introducing an accounting system to determine the city’s exact financial standing. In 1984 he watched as Wall Street greeted the District as it moved into the bond market with the highest credit rating possible. Mr. Barry also created an Office of Business Development to attract businesses to the District.

Mr. Barry took office as mayor in January 1979, assembling a team of top aides from the ranks of the civil rights movement and declaring he would reform the government he inherited, reduce a staggering deficit, empower citizens and rebuild a sense of “community.” Jefferson Rogers, who has known Marion Barry, Jr. since 1962, characterizes him as “the most effective cultural politician” in recent modern history, a Mississippi sharecropper’s son who learned to be tough.

Mr. Barry has built a legacy of championing for those individuals and causes that have been sorely disenfranchised. When he first became mayor, Mr. Barry says the city had “mostly all-white people doing all the work, making all the money.” Throughout his years, Mr. Barry pushed hard to increase the number of D.C. contracts going to minority contractors. When he arrived, he says the number was about 3 percent; it was 47 percent when he left.

At the age of 68, Marion Barry, Jr. has re-entered the world of politics with his recent overwhelming election as a District of Columbia City Councilperson representing Ward 8. Mr. Barry has been called a “quick study in terms of seeing the importance of a particular project’s economic value.” He wasted no time in building bridges to the business community, holding weekly brown bag lunches that had, by the end of his first year in office, included 400 to 500 business people.

“When you want to understand the complexities of working through both the federal and a local bureaucracy, to create a plan for economic empowerment for minority residents & businesses, and overall social reform, there is no one better to hear from than the ‘DC Mayor for life’ Marion Barry, Jr.,” says Joshua Smith, Chairman of the Summit and President/CEO of the Coaching Group, LLC. “I believe that we will gain positive insight on the visions of Mr. Barry and how he views the economic climate for today’s African American Businesses.”

The Dubois Business Summit is designed for the business owners in the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan area to come together and learn how to improve and grow their business and to network with other successful business owners. The Summit is being brought to you through the collaborative efforts of: The Harlem Remembrance Foundation, Prince George’s Black Chamber of Commerce, The Maryland/DC Minority Suppliers Council, Maryland Small Business Development Center, and the Prince George’s County Minority Business Opportunities Commission.

Originals By Weber Announces New Low Cost Way To Automatically, Peel & Affix Self-Stick Mailing, Address & Other Labels

Originals By Weber Announces New Low Cost Way To Automatically, Peel & Affix Self-Stick Mailing, Address & Other Labels

Weber Label Peeler with hand ready to pull down and release labels.

Toms River, NJ (PRWEB) January 26, 2012

Originals By Weber, Toms River, NJ, announces the new Weber Label Peeler a very small hand operated non-electric, highly efficient desktop machine designed to automatically and quickly peel letter size sheets of pressure sensitive, self-stick, labels of many different sizes. Labels are then ready to be picked off and affixed my hand. Eliminates the very boring and time consuming drudgery of doing the job by hand alone.

This is a handy new way to automatically peel and hand affix self-stick (PS) mail address labels and other label sizes such as tab, shipping labels and others. This small (10″x 7″) desktop, hand operated non-electric, fast machine peels the labels at a rate of about 350 labels per hour. Labels are then affixed by hand, no electric needed. Low cost. Much faster and less boring than by hand alone!

NOTE: Picture on the right shows the front of the Weber Label Peeler.

When Weber was asked how he happened to invent this Weber Label Peeler machine he replied:

“Here is the story behind the Weber Label Peeler”

“A few years ago I ran a direct mail service company. We used to mail many thousands of letters every month for a large number of clients using our big electric, automatic mailing machines. One time I had a client with a very small mailing list. He asked me if I would do the mailing for him using his little computer generated mailing list. It was a list that he had printed on letter-sized sheets of labels on (Avery pressure sensitive) sheets of paper. He had only about 230 names on his list. It was such a small mailing I asked him: Why don’t you have your secretary do it?’ He laughed as he said I did – but after doing it once she refused to do that job again because it is so boring and time consuming! I had to agree with him! But I took the job anyway and I did those small mailings for him for more than a year. That is when I thought about the problem people with small lists have, and in a short time I invented my simple little desktop Weber Label Peeler machine to do those kinds of jobs quickly and efficiently. That very basic little machine really does take the drudgery and boredom out hand peeling and affixing labels once and for all.”

Weber Label Peeler is a new invention. It is a non-electric, (rather attractive in its simplicity), desktop office machine used to automatically peel pressure sensitive, self-stick address labels (as well as other label sizes such as small tab labels used to seal self mailers) from letter size (8 1/2″ x 11″) backing sheets.

Weber Label Peeler makes hand label peeling and affixing much faster than ever before.

The desktop macnine is used in home and business offices where several small mailing lists are put on computers. These lists are then used to make frequent small mailings (weekly or monthly for example) to customers, sales reps, or clients.

The names and addresses are printed from the computer onto letter size sheets of die-cut pressure sensitive address label stock (Example: Avery). To get out a mailing, an office worker is given the tedious job of peeling those address labels, one at a time, from the sheet and then affixing them by hand onto an envelope. Doing this job purely by hand is a time consuming; slow, tedious job that is sheer drudgery.

This new hand operated Weber Label Peeler machine speeds up the process (estimated speed is 350 labels per hour or more) by making hand label peeling and affixing faster and much more automatic.

It works like this:

(1) An operator puts a sheet of labels into the machine.

(2) Next a gentle pull on the bottom of the sheet moves a row of 3 labels into position where they can be peeled off the backing sheet one row and one label at a time.

(3) The worker then picks off the first label in the row and affixes it to an envelope.

(4) Then picks off the next label, affixes it.

(5) Picks off the last label in the row and affixes it.

To make the next row of labels move up, the operator again pulls down on bottom of the sheet, then another row of labels pop up into position for removal as before. Weber Label Peeler can be used to peel any label that will fit into a width of up to 9-inches. It can also be used with roll labels (that is: when labels are supplied in rolls, instead of flat as flat sheets of paper.

Orders for Weber Label Peeler, price: $ 95.00 each, can be mailed to: Originals By Weber, 338 Alabama Avenue, Toms River, NJ 08753. The Weber Label Peeler is on hand and ready for immediate delivery via USPS Priority Mail. Objectivity, Inc. and Tom Sawyer Software Announce Strategic Partnership to Address Complex Data Challenges

Objectivity, Inc. and Tom Sawyer Software Announce Strategic Partnership to Address Complex Data Challenges

Sunnyvale, CA and Oakland, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 03, 2011

Objectivity, Inc., the leader in distributed, scalable data management technologies, and Tom Sawyer Software, the premier provider of software for building high-performance data visualization and analysis applications, today announced a strategic alliance between the two companies. The partnership brings together key technologies – visualization and deep analytics – that are leveraged by customers to navigate, understand and display complex data patterns and relationships to enhance critical decision-making.

Data plays a critical role in enterprise and government operations and decisions. The mere availability of massive amounts of data, however, does not produce insightful decisions. Large sets of complex data present many challenges, and are often difficult or impossible to analyze and utilize effectively. This strategic partnership leverages Objectivity’s object-oriented data management platform along with its distributed graph database technology, InfiniteGraph, and Tom Sawyer Perspectives, a graphics-based integrated design environment for building sophisticated data visualization and analysis applications. The synergy will help companies gain deeper insight into their data, proactively identify threats and opportunities, and significantly minimize risk throughout the decision making process.

“Tom Sawyer Software’s focus has always been on enabling our customers to maximize the value of their data assets through the use of advanced data visualization and analysis technology. The increasing need to discover critical insights across growing volumes of complex data requires advanced data management platforms in addition to sophisticated visualization technology,” said Brendan Madden, Chief Executive Officer of Tom Sawyer Software. “Objectivity Inc.’s object-oriented data management platform and distributed graph database technologies, along with their market leadership, complement our vision of enabling organizations to achieve the maximum value of their data assets.”

With Objectivity’s scalable database and object persistence technology, organizations can address queries across highly connected data; and their distributed graph database, InfiniteGraph, enables large-scale and fast graph analysis and data analytics. Tom Sawyer Perspectives allows organizations to quickly build powerful data visualization and analysis applications to gain new insight into their data, enabling them to proactively detect critical patterns and trends. This collaboration between Tom Sawyer Software’s advanced visualization software and Objectivity’s scalable data and graph traversal technologies will allow companies to access complex data sets and identify key relationships in these data sets much more efficiently and use them to guide their mission-critical decisions.

“Objectivity, Inc. and Tom Sawyer Software serve many of the same markets with complementary technologies that help customers effectively address their most demanding complex data management challenges and turn analytic data into valuable decision making information,” said Jay Jarrell, Objectivity, Inc. CEO and president. “Both our companies share a common vision, in helping organizations perform analysis of complex relationships and connections within large amounts of data, and then visualize that information in a way that speeds interpretation and use of this information in decisions.”

The combined power of Objectivity’s data management and relationship traversal technologies and Tom Sawyer Software’s visualization software will enable customers to more effectively address their most demanding, complex data management challenges, and turn data into valuable, actionable information.
